Queen Convos

Friday night, I attended my high school cheer sister, turned customer, turned friend’s event. Sukeenah Kelly, has spearheaded an organization called Queen Tingz (Queen Convos) with the initiative  to empower women of color. Made up of an intimate group of 25 women, the event started off with ice breakers so that everyone could loosen up and get to know each other.

Ice breakers were proceeded with an intermission to eat and we reconvened with a make-up tutorial from Drek MUA. She was very entertaining to say the least. She was very blunt and she shared so many make-up tips with us on how to get the perfect brow, which foundations to use, and in what order you should apply all your products. Sounds like something you should be able to learn from a Youtube video right? Wrong! I like seeing things in person and being hands on. Everyone was asked to bring their make-up bag and products and we worked step by step on our faces as she lectured.

The event was concluded with a group circle conversation, where we sat on couches cuddled with blankets and pillows. We wrote discussion topics on a note card, placed them in a bowl, and picked one at random. The very first topic got so deeppppp! We talked about black women always wanting to be strong and why that is an issue. We talked about how we emasculate black men in our pursuit to upkeep this strong persona. We talked about infidelity. I told you it got deeepppp!

Sukeenah plans to have more of these events and I am all here for it. It was great to be in a room full of women that I may have not had the chance to connect with but this platform allowed us to. There was talk of Queen Tingz also starting a travel club, which I am here for that too! Make sure to join us at the next event.
